Music

Music is a foundation subject in the national curriculum.  Music is a practical, creative subject which can be of benefit to all children in developing imagination, the ability to listen attentively and the ability to express personal thoughts and feelings.

Our main aim at Swallownest Primary School is to promote enjoyment of music and all pupils will be taught the skills and knowledge of music as outlined in the programmes of study in the national curriculum for music. In both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils’ understanding and enjoyment of music will be developed through Performing and Composing and Listening and Appraising. All pupils at Swallownest will be given the opportunity to sing, perform and compose using a range of tuned and untuned instruments; perform with others and in so doing develop an awareness of audience, venue and occasion; compose in response to a variety of stimulus; communicate their musical ideas to others; listen to and develop some understanding of music from different times and places, applying knowledge to their own work and respond to and evaluate both live music and recorded music, including their own and others compositions and performances.
